The Clark Fund: Small Grants, Real Relief 🧡

When everyday costs suddenly become overwhelming, even a small amount of support can make a meaningful difference. That’s the idea behind the Clark Fund — providing timely, practical help to people and families across Kingston when it matters most.

Launched in 2024, the Clark Fund was created to respond quickly to urgent need. From food and energy bills to school essentials, these small grants help cover the basics — offering a sense of stability during challenging moments.

Support, when it’s needed most

Thanks to the support of Kingston Council, local councillors and our wider community, the fund has already reached 66 people and families across the borough.

Today, we are distributing a further £3,800 to 14 recipients, bringing our total support to 80 grants, positively impacting an estimated 305 people.

Behind each grant is a real story — a family able to keep the lights on, a young person returning to school with the essentials they need, or someone given a moment of breathing space during a difficult time.

Powered by community

Since launching, the Clark Fund has distributed £18,450 in grants — including £6,450 in individual donations and £12,000 in neighbourhood grants.

A key part of the fund is its Participatory Grant Making (PGM) approach. This means local people are directly involved in deciding how funding is allocated — ensuring support reaches those who need it most, in ways that reflect real, lived experience.

The fund has supported individuals and families across Kingston, particularly those in North Kingston, with applications often made by trusted local organisations, charities and schools on behalf of the people they support.

Small grants, lasting impact

While the grants may be small, their impact can be significant.

They provide:

  • Immediate relief during times of crisis

  • Greater dignity and choice for those receiving support

  • A sense of being seen, heard and supported by the local community

These moments of relief matter. They create space for people to regain their footing and move forward.
